Bert and Ernie

I use to want to hang a picture of Bert and Ernie above my bed. But since I sleep alone (most nights, unless accompanied by my daughter) it just seems like a lie to have such a picture above my bed. You must think I've lost my mind.

Instead, I have a print of Times Square hanging above my bed. But it's Bert and Ernie that I would like to see there. Why? Well, Bert and Ernie reach back to the comfort and peace of childhood. These are qualities that should be embraced by the bedroom. Bert and Ernie are fun. Bert and Ernie have no pretensions. Again, qualities that I think have a natural home in the bedroom. Bert and Ernie get their names from one of my favorite movies, "It's a Wonderful Life." Bert and Ernie are silly. I'm a big proponent for silly in the bedroom. But I sleep alone, and Bert and Ernie are a package. So, I'll keep Times Square with its cold steel, blurred life in motion, alarming lights, and meaningless cries for attention hawking its wares. But I'd rather see Bert and Ernie.
