Anyone invited to this blog knows that I'm currently taking classes for the purpose of conversion to Reform Judaism. But the skeptic still stirs within. And the skeptic cannot help but notice the similarities between Disney and organized religion. Having recently returned from Disney world these observations are particularly keen.
Both Disney and organized religion want your money, both put on grand shows, both include a benevolent, male leader promising dreams come true, and both (I can't believe I'm using the serial comma) require some suspension of reality to fully enjoy the experience.
In addition, I can't help but wonder are we so bereft of hope and happiness that we will buy a story of hope and happiness in any package? Are the three circles of the Mickey logo an inverse "holy" trinity? It sure would seem so if you are looking for the "holy grail" of marketing. So, in the end I'm left wondering if my Mickey ears are just a yamaka with flare? And can I wear them to synagogue?
