Steppin' Out

I love shoes. I use to like shoes, odd shoes. I wore saddle oxfords from childhood to my mid-twenties. I wore plaid, flannel converse high tops with sundresses. I wore combat boots with skirts. I wore ankle boots with my Catholic school girl uniform. And then I turned 30.

In my 30s, I began to love shoes. And I began to love heels, high heels. My red-satin Eva Gardners, my gold peek-a-boo Paolo's, my suede, studded, clogged Michael Kohrs, my knee-high, laced, stressed-leather boots, my Carlos Santana's. My dreams of Manolo Blahnik.

I love heels. I love how they make me feel sexy. I love how they shape my leg. I love how they say today is special. I love how they slope and curve. I love how they denote you are pampered. I love how they make it difficult to walk. I love how they make me take smaller, slower steps. I love how they pinch. I love how they throw my back out of alignment. I love how they prove to me just how flexible my ankles are when I walk on cracked pavement. I love how they skate across ice. I love how they make my feet ache after 8 hours. I love how coupled with nylons they make my feet stinky. I love how without the nylons they make my feet stinky with blisters. I love how they cost upwards of $100. I love how they promise to deliver varicose veins to keep the cellulite company. I love going home and putting on my slipper socks. And I really love wearing my slipper socks around the office.

Sorry, honey. I love you, but you are crazy. Maybe it is because I am chasing a 2 year-old... but heels are NOT an option for me. I love my shoes too, but comfortable and never with too much heel. I wish I could sacrifice comfort for beauty... but I am just not that fashionable. Give me my comfy and somewhat cool shoes and BOOTS, now that is my LOVE. Comfortable and stylish boots, I have shopped two seasons to find just the right pair. The thing is, I have GORGEOUS feet, seriously I really do- and the most perfect toes, so you'd think I would pay more attention to my shoes... but, no. It is sad, such a waste of perfect feet in comfy shoes.

Hmm, I thought the sarcasm was heavy handed. Do you ladies think I really love tripping, pain, stinky feet?
