Talking to Myself

Myspace, my phone, my cell phone, my answering machine, my office phone, my voice mails, my emails, my facebook, my blog, twitter, IM, text message - all this connection and social networking - and I feel all alone.

You could always come hang out with us. Isaac would love to hang out with Bella again.

I understand where you are coming from, but feel quite differently about the connections that technology creates.

100 years ago we would have been waiting months for a letter to arrive from a loved one who was separated from us. Today we can, in most cases, touch them instantly.

I assume that you were really talking about the personal connections and not the tools. I see them as totally separate issues.

I was talking about the feeling Michele referred to about being alone in a crowd. For example, if I blog and no one comments it's like talking to a wall. When I message and tone is misinterpreted where does that leave me? When I email or call I can not read your face or see body language. As a person that talks and even IMs with gesticulation of hands and body, I think much is lost in tech communication. I would just like to look into the eyes of the person I speaking with more often.

anon#1 I'm almost overwhelmed by all your avenues of connectivity. at some moment you must say "step away from the computer" and come on over to my house for some live conversation with fast talking and gesticulating arms.
