Unspoken

Do you hear the unspoken I love yous
that sit on my tongue,
slip from my lips,
and weave between my sentences?

Your imprint has faded from my sheets,
but carved out a confessional in my heart
from which harsh libations pour forth.
Offerings unintentional, unexpected –
the common place between us.

Each disclosure opens a pocket to my soul.
Raw and defeated I unveil my flaws in defiance.
Drowning in brackish water, thirsty for you.

Steady pressure, pushing, pushing
out memories that haunt.
"I dare you to love me," they say.
"Prove me right. Run away."
